The thought hit me today when thinking back on how consoles did in sales.

EDIT: SNES(weaker) vs Gen(stronger) Winner: SNES
SNES(stronger) vs Gen(weaker) Winner: SNES

Gamecube(strong) vs PS2(weakest) vs Xbox(strongest) Winner: PS2

EDIT: PS1(stronger) vs N64(weaker) Winner: PS1
PS1(weaker) vs N64(stronger) Winner: PS1

So for the exception of PS1 the weakest units usually won the console war, which many times graphically N64 and PS1 didn't have much difference it was usually in the storage department PS1 shined, though PS1 was capable of more it turned out games of same graphica capability most of the time.

The thought is that the argument about graphics is pointless, and 2 out of 3 times the weakest units won, and the time the stronger unit won, it was turning out similar graphical games, to argue who is going to win this console war would be to let go of fanboyism and system specs and look at it from the eyes of the media and consumers, what is getting the good reputation and what is getting the bad, and in what region as region size determines sales.

Xbox 360 has bad rep in Japan (smallest market), fair in Europe(the medium market, and the considdered the other system to have with your Wii in America by many (the largest game market). The Media played a big role in Halo 3 sales and the spike of 360 sales of that time so 360 has the media and good rep in most peoples eyes.

Wii has the rep and the media in all three regions it's hard to argue that point, it's plastered everywhere.

PS3 has popularity similar to 360 in Japan (remember smaller), better in Europe (medium) but winning by 10 to 20k a week is not going to fill the gap WW, and has poor rep in America but is selling to the Sony fans, so the question is can that hold out till PS3 can get better rep in America.

Just from the standpoint right now I gotta say it's going to be a draw for PS3 and 360 unless Sony can change the way people look at their console in Americ, they have to get over that hurtle before they can take the fight to the Wii, even then a big gap when you think things like Brawl, Mario Kart, Wii Fit, etc are on the horizon and won't do anything but draw people in.

Just a logical standpointof the consoles and their life right now, what do ya'll think about it?
