I bought a Surface for 1. It does actual computing tasks unlike Ipad or Nexus 7. 2. It talks to my Windows Pone and Xbox for ALL my media needs. 3. I dont want a desktop experience anymore, I dont even make use of my desktop version of Windows 8 Pro. Only use the Metro side. 4. No way would I ever hook up a PC or Laptop to my 42 " HDTV to use Chrome or Firefox when IE on 360 does exactly what I want. Buy goods, check email and VGChartz. etc.
I dont care for owning and fiddling with different OS, different wires, different browsers etc. Smartglass is fantastic not just from a browser point of view. I just signed a 1 year Xbox Music pass and have 8000 Microsoft points so I can buy ( purchase ) Tv series and HD movies via Xbox video. All can be used across all 3 devices I'll own in less tan 1 month for the 1 time cost. Genius. No fuss it just works.
Of course I bought Surface for the wrong reasons. I should have got a Nexus 7 or Ipad where I cant do everyday PC tasks. |
1. Has nothing to do with anything I'm talking about, and you should have waited for the pro version if you want actual computing tasks, the current one is RT which means it runs on ARM based processer, in this case, it's a Tegra 3, you won't be able to run x86 apps on it. The pro version coming in later will cost a little more but those will be Core i Processors then you'd have a much better device for actual computing tasks, what I'm trying to say is that you went for it too early, not to mention first edition of any Windows release without major service packs are bug bound to the oblivion. Too early!
2. I'd seriously hope so, it's suppose to, but you definitely can use your almighty phone for most of it too, think of it as a bigger screened Windows Phone, of course though, Tegra 3 is most likely much better than what you have on your phone so hopefully your experience will be better, the down side is that Tegra 3's audio chipset embedded inside is not very good so don't expect killer quality audio from it. I know this because I own a Tegra 3 tablet. Also, there is a resolution difference between the RT and Pro, one is 1366x768 and the other is 1920x1080, it's clear which is better for multimedia.
3. Too early, should have waited for Surface Pro.
4. You can do that on your Surface! Your viewing distance to your TV will be pretty much the same as you looking down on the 11inch screen tablet with a keyboard dock, and the Surface will most likely provide a better browsing experience based on the fact that it has more RAM than the 360. The whole 360 thing is a useless gimmicky marketing ploy.
When I said I hope you are not doing it for the wrong reasons, I mean owning a tablet at all, not that you should buy something else. This is not a "what's better" discussion I'm trying to have with you. I've been doing consulting for a long time for professionals and friends/family alike. If the listed are what you are looking for, then hopefully I have shed some light on the situation for you. You are better off with the Surface Pro according to what you are really looking for.
