having at least one of them adds +4 gold to every minion kill. And having both adds 10% damage (as well as denying the gold bonus to the enemy) ... so yeah, important.
Technically, there are two "jungle" paths, but the upper one only contains the spider. It might be better said that there is only one area on each side for jungling, and since it happens to be between the two lanes, it's more convenient for junglers. Add the fact that you can't buy wards, and ... !
