RT is built on an ARM system on a chip architecture. This is new to windows universe and because it's new it has no legacy support for windows programs that have made it the most popular platform in the last 20 years. You want to install VLC to watch xvid files? You can't on RT. want to install the tax software you bought last year? Can't...
Instead you need to get all your programs from the new windows app store for the RT. it's a locked system, much like the iPad...
Windows 8 pro is the real deal running on the same pc hardware it's always been. Full backwards compatibility with progrms, install everything and anything ever made for windows ecosystem...and full access to the app store that RT uses as well.
