Yeah, I agree. I mean, I find it odd how many old articles and things reference him as being Kenyan born, and this is something that far predates birtherism - which didn't rear its ugly head until the Democratic primary in 2008 - but it's all pretty boring. People who think Obama is a secret furriner won't ever be convinced otherwise and people who think it wouldn't matter even if he were will never change their minds, either, and we'll probably never know the origin of all this stuff anyway. Maybe it really was just some kind of accidental fabrication on the part of his publicist that took on a life of its own. I'm not sure I buy that, but it's hardly the least plausible scenario being tossed around. It's a minor curiosity at best, and a pretty stupid distraction. Then again, when you are a president with a terrible record and a candidate who is indistinguishible from the president on many important issues, I'm not so sure they don't generally welcome stupid distractions.
But you're probably right that Romney doesn't want this particular one. He's slightly ahead, and this has the potential to burn him.
