Or maybe shortage is created by people like you buying many consoles thinking they will get a lot of money off it. With rumors of the console selling out, there is high demand amongst resellers like you, but is there high enough demand amongst the REAL customers for resellers to turn a profit ?
BTW, Nintendo could easily trick people like you by offering a limited amount of consoles for preorder, then flooding the market with stock on launch day.

Well if you think you're not just one of tens of thousands of people who preorder for resale, you're quite mistaken, that's a really widespread practice. For example with spectacle and gigs tickets, in the UK there are several companies hiring hundreds of people equipped with hundreds of credit cards to get as many tickets as possible and resell them at double price.
This grey economy of mass resale is a widespread phenomenon hurting consumers and hurting the public image of companies, so yeah they try to fight that.
