I do believe that graphical jumps are becoming less noticeable and less important for consumers, but it still boggles my mind that a developer sounds SO excited to run a game on new hardware exactly the same as they can run it on last gen's hardware. Not even Nintendo is bothering to push their own hardware. You can argue that it's just the launch window, you can argue that the games (such as NSMB) don't need better graphics, but the truth is that the system is currently not showing anything substantial over these cheaper consoles that have a much larger library of titles. It'll be a while (if ever) for the Wii U to impress in that regard.

The difference is XBOX = SD console with "almost no" effect the real world offers. VS 360 = HD console with "almost all" the effect the real world offers.
You know all the water effects lighting shadows fog, all the shaders etc just look at BF3!
There will never ever be a generational leap like the one we had from XBOX to 360 because we already have most of the stuff that exists in reality. We will refine it and make them more realistic etc but that will never be such a WOW effect. As going from nothing to where we are now.
Btw IMHO Nintendo offers meh games at lauch to not steal the show for the third party but at the same time they still have something to offer to Nintendo fans. Remember the 3ds launch disaster? No Nintendo game at all = bad idea. And having Nintendo blockbusters at the launch = no chance for the third party.
