You know what he meant. He was talking about the boundries of the hardware from a technical standpoint. If you had said, "they aren't because they don't need to," then that would have been a perfectly valid, and probably true, answer. Instead, you gave a defensive and insulting answer that made no sense in the context of the question.
Though I don't like Mario games, I actually agree that they don't need to push the envelope with titles in that franchise. Still, the way you answered was wrong, and there is absolutely no reason to get upset about anything.
