atleast it could deal with the situations in which the renewable power sources produce "too much" energy, like at a sunny day with a lot of wind - you need sth. store that energy and release it again when it's dark and calm

nowadays here in germany we use that energy to pump water to a higher location and let it run down again (through a generator) when we need the energy and afaik that is a pretty effective way, but there is just so much water you can pump up (in total and at a time)

Yeah, that is a valid strategy, just not quite world changing and I would guess reasonably inneficient as the man in the video didn't want to get drawn into that discussion
