The gamecube was a flop saleswise. A console with a good number of great exclusive games that only sells 21m units is a flop. Also Nintendo was expecting the GC to sell much better in its lifespan. Compared to the GC the Xbox is a success saleswise if you take a look at their respective game libraries. How many great games were available only on Xbox and not on any other console or PC? Microsoft was a newcomer to the videogame business and were able to beat Nintendo saleswise. That is success for Microsoft and failure for Nintendo. |
Microsoft venture into the video game business has been if not a disaster than a dissapointment, losing so much money year after year. Beating the GameCube in sales doesn't mean the X-Box was a success. The GameCube made Nintendo a profit and what microsoft got from the X-Box and continues to get with the 360 is hundreds of millions of dollars of loses.
