Great thread. This is definitely the gen for shooters and action adventures. Those sales dwarf all the rest.
I didn't realize that the original Playstation sold over a 100 million. Will the Wii still be able to catch it, starts to look unlikely.

This year Wii is selling about 50% as well as it did last year. So if it keeps this up, Wii will reach 99 million by years end, putting annual sales at about 5.5 million. It then only needs 5 more million to surpass PS1 sales. It probably won't happen in 2013, but I think Wii sales will surpass PS1 sales. After all PS2 still sold over 4 million units after 12 years on the market. While Wii's legs aren't as strong as PS2's, I think it's very capable of selling 3 million units in 2013 (it's 8th year on the market), and the make up the next 2 million needed to pass PS1 by 2015.

What's more interesting in the relationship between PSP and well everything. PSP is about 6.5 million sales behind GBA in terms of overall sales, but PSP sales are crawling now. Also with an alligned launch, PSP sold about on par with PS3, except for a drop in year 5 for PSP only (I'll show these graphs in my Q4). So PS3 and X360 will top PSP someday, and it's interesting to see when, and if PS3 can still top X360.
