You don't know the failure rate of the PS2. And failed thread? I would say OP put everyone who doubted him in their place.
|
no stats indeed but from collective experience ps2 is known to be a very unreliable machine
failed thread indeed as DS is a console and there was no groud for OP's position
|
Your collective experience is not representative for 156 million sold PS2s. Its indeed known that launch PS2s had DRE's, but that was limited to only launch models. PS2 is still the most sold console, OP is still right, try again in the next gen.

Probably the same source as yours

tbh the general consensus is that PS2 had huge issues all along it's production - and on the other hand i cannot find any indication that DRE was solved at any point (nor was the only issue to begin with)
so my point still stands
PS2 being part of the knowingly high failure rate consoles
and having had one of the longest life cycles
it is only logical that a big share of the PS2 are well dead and the install might have even never reached that of the DS
|
That's a pretty huge selection bias if you ask me.
Anyway, since people like to use software sales as proof that there are still more active 360s out there, then why don't we do the same for PS2 vs. DS? PS2 absolutely destroyed DS in overall software sales.

regarding the sources those were the first forum results when typing "PS2 failure rate" on google
3rd also goes the same way so where is the bias ?

regarding your second point you're right (100%)
