Yes, that is one argument from the famous bingo board.
A reasonable person saw that wii was doing worse than hd consoles on third party games even when they had much higher install base, a logical conclusion would be that they aren't going to switch to wii. When this point was made, the responses were like "lol hardcorez hater, mario&sonic/whatever sold just fine! moving goalposts much? Check the launch aligned graph, third parties are doing better on wii than hd consoles".
And as someone else already said, online was a decent factor this gen.
