As far as your points go, the third party games one seems to be the only significant argument. It's very doubtful that the other factors actually played much of a role in Wii's decline. And, honestly, this generation was pretty much revolutionary in terms of third party stubbornness, for lack of a better word. Can you really blame people for thinking that third parties would eventually flock to the console that is way cheaper, way easier to develop for and way more popular, albeit much weaker? I mean, as long as their primary motive is profits, I'd've thought that third parties would go along making cheaper and graphically weaker games on the Wii instead of putting as much effort into the HD consoles as they did. We had pretty much the same situation with the DS, didn't we? That made it all the more likely that Wii would follow. |
Yes, you kinda could. I dont know about anyone else, but for me the writings were all over the walls. First off, the 360 was out the gate a whole YEAR before the Wii went to market. That is not a short amount of time in the tech world, that means alot of companies were putting their assests in HD gaming before they even put it in the Wii. If you dont think online played some small role in all this, then you need to check again. Whats the most popular game on 360? hell PS3? yeah online def had something to do with it. Did you really think that companies would just chop all those assests, dozens of engines just to go back for one console? when they theorically could reach the same userbase number (PS360 combined) doing what they already were doing? Now that, at least to me is crazy. Lets talk about software for a second, even In Wii's heyday the 360 version at least for most games ended selling better than the Wii one, despite the larger gap in install base. That never happened for any system before, PS2 version of games SOUNDLY trounced the other two on most occasions. Hell since 2009 and now the PS3 versions of games managed to pass the Wii one, people do care about performance at least.
