That game had some followers from the start not that many I grant you that but I remember people following and laughing with some horrible animations.

Oh come now, you're telling me that people laughing at horrible animations is enough to call a game overhyped?  You may have a point that it happens less with Sony titles, but obviously there are still hidden gems and there are good reasons to think something might be awesome when the first few reviews say exactly that.  So what made you think that the Swan game was going to be a 7.8 meta after the first few reviews were 9's?  At that point I'd call your prediction more unlikely than someone saying it looked like another hidden gem.

My point is that the game even had some fans from the start...    What was so great about the swan from the start except an special look?  People this days are already hyping up games for just having some nice looking art;..(aka a lot of 2d games the recent years)..

What interested me in The Unfinished Swan was the initial tech demo of a white world that you had to work your way through by revealing the environment with paint, the minimalist art style, and then I became even more excited when I played it at E3 and found out that it wasn't a one trick pony and different levels would have you using the paint in different ways in different areas.  All of that with a cool somewhat sad story about Monroe and his deceased mom and I couldn't help but be excited.

Your turn now, what reasons are there that Swan didn't seem so great from the start?
