Maybe I'm crazy but what's the benefit to chat with someone you're not in the same game with?

Not being antisocial.

I'm very social. But if I'm playing a shooter or someother game where I want chat... I am using it for in-game scenarios.

I don't want to be talking to a buddy of mine about random chatter when I'm playing a game. I like to focus on the game or the convo. I simply don't see the interest in doing both at the same time.

If I'm having a random convo, I'll likely pause the game anyways or ask to talk later as I'm busy. Additionally, I like to play games that require focus and thought... kinda why a lot of them are solo experiences primarily anyways.

However, I do think from a design point of view, Nintendo should have made VOIP a primary function of the OS. MS will have that and it should be obvious Sony will. Now 3rd parties will have to build a whole extra layer for their game when its given to them by Nintendo's competitors. Just a bad design.

But I still see very little value in cross-game chat. In game chat is a must. Being able to pause and have a chat (video or not) is awesome and shows WiiU has chat at some layer, but that part is likely just in miiverse.
