I get a little bored of it myself, but it seems like that perspective works in these horror games, especially on PC.

Well, Dead Space 1&2 where the best horror games in the last few years. Resident Evil is the best horror franchise ever, except 5&6. And there are other franchises worth mentioning as well like alone in the dark and Silent hill. All of those franchises are in third person mode and are far more intense then lets say S.T.A.L.K.E.R or Fear.
