Like many publishers, Namco must be in a wait and see approach as for as WiiU. They need to know wether Nintendo can win back the core before developing anything like Tales which is a traditional franchise.

The majority of Tales fans are playing on PS3 (and 3DS) right now, they hardly have any urge to develop on another system. Tales of Xillia in Japan alone is bigger than Vesperia or Symphonia 2 worldwide. Tales of Vesperia/Graces sold twice as many copies as their counterparts on 360/Wii in Japan. Graces F already sold more than Symphonia 2 in the west despite Wii having a larger user base. How can a developing and uncertain WiiU user base do them any good?

But what could happen is Nintendo throwing money at Namco to get a timed exclusive that would be released later on PS3/4 with more content.

No it didn't. Last NPD totals we have for both games are around 64k for Graces F and 136k for ToS: DotNW. Not that this matters much though. Tales games are developed with Japan in mind, system included. Plus they actually said Graces F and Abyss 3D did sell well (for Abyss 3D they specified Europe though). Which is funny considering the numbers aren't that high. Localization for these games must be cheaper than we think...

Anyway, I doubt we'll see a Tales game on the Wii U anytime soon. Especially if Nintendo doesn't bring that Tales fanbase over, which is currently on PS systems. They put a lot of games on different systems this gen and that hurt them, but they've found a good base on the PS3. After they're done developing for the PS3, there's no reason to assume they'll skimp out on the PS4 with how successful the games are on the PS3.

If Nintendo wants a Wii U Tales game, they better build up that fanbase ASAP because I don't really see Namco diverging much after what happened this gen. At best I can see a Tales of Symphonia Wii U remake I guess. They made Abyss 3D for the 3DS but that's just a port and not indicative of future support for Nintendo. Though things are really different this gen, with the Vita being a bust at the moment and the 3DS is pretty much getting the PSP support and fanbase. So it'll be really interesting to see how they handle Tales games on handhelds and whether they'll focus on the 3DS, though they've already done an Innocence remake on the Vita.

How can you have 64K in the west when VGchartz shows a near 130K opening in the US alone? Can you share your NPD source?
