Because it's your flagship game and you want the Nintendo brand to be synoymous with quality and delivering the best experience.
Apple could save $5 by having the outside of the case be plastic. They don't because Apple's high standards are essential to their brand and it's making them far more sales than the immediate cost reduction would.
