Being gay is no more a defect than having Red Hair. Defect infers that something is "broken" or not functional in the grand scheme of things. Gays are functional in every meaningful way. Not being desired by society and being defective are two different things. They still can have and want children....they just are not inclined to perpetuate a romance with the opposite sex. And having babies is not the main purpose of life, it is just one aspect of it. Sustaining life takes more than just popping out babies. There are plenty of straight couples who have no desire for children, does that make them defective too? I also heard on average that gay men and women are far more fertile than straight people.
