It could be easily argued that what you have been doing is insulting people's intelligence. "Like how stupid does he think we are?"

I'll try to make an analogy. Suppose Galatasaray leads 3:0 vs. Besiktas Istanbul. Then in the 90th minute Besiktas scores the 3:1 and a Besiktas fan declares that this is amazing and should be celebrated. And everyone else will wonder why. Besiktas lost 3:1, so what's the point in celebrating a late goal after a disappointing performance? Yes, they scored a goal, but that's it. The PSP accomplished the same thing three times as fast.

Good point you make there. But a team would alwas want to go down 3-1 rather than 3-0, the late goal would serve as an honor rescuer.
