Don't fool yourself, the only thing keeping a conflict from happening is the influence of the NATO and the USA, weapons of mass destruction and the push for cultural relativism and the eternal reminder of the WW2 who made europeans one of the most passive people on Earth... but still not enough to surrender sovereignty and accept political union like you, my enthusiastic friend, suggests, or to keep their hands forever away from arms. Move NATO away from the balkans for instance and in a few years the map is going to be redrawn.
