Okay, but what did the PS3 offer 3 years in that was so much better? Maybe we just have to wait for the 3DS install base and gamerbase to grow I guess, since 1 year in I'm almost certain the 3DS has better value propositions in Japan than the PS3 did (even for that segment). I could be wrong, as MGS4 alone could be reason enough for Japanese to get a PS3.

You do have a point. PS3 had a really slow start, everything started with GT5 prologue, MGS4, CoD4 and then since end of 2008 the flow of content has become continuous. But 3DS has been out for 1 year and a half now and personally there's never been so few games to look out for. In 2013 for me it's going to be Ace Attorney 5, Professor Layton 6 and... that's about it. Even Vita has more exciting titles to me.
