Long story short Sony is going back to a format that the company has already deemed inferior, many of their mascots started out and are to this very day 3D oriented. Nintendo has its roots in 2D and SSB reflected this by presenting the mascots in a way that most people remember them.

That's what I'm referring to with the second point. I can't even remember a 2D starfox. Not sure what Captain Falcon was doing out of his vehicle as well.

Oh yeah that makes total sense now, 2 out of 35 characters actually do not have 2 sidescrolling platformer roots so that invalidates everything I said up to this point.

As far as "side-scrolling platformer roots", the same could be said for Pikachu, Jigglypuff, Link, and I think Ness. Meaning 6/12.

None of those games besides Star Fox is 3D. Love how you guys keep nagging on every single little thing. "Ha! He said sidescrolling platformer! We are off 2D, lets list what games are not sidescrolling platformers besides being totally irrelevant!" Jeeeeeeeesus.

wow that quote size is dizzying but Link had a game in 1987 the majority of which was 2d slidescrolling and a number of times in links awakening do you fall into areas which were mario dungeonesq 2d.
Not that I think the characters coming from a 2d or a 3d background makes any different given I've never heard any complants about the games on the megadrive era such as robocop and terminator having been reviewed poorly because they weren't 3d like the characters had appeared in the movies :D As long as fat princess is fat and Kratos tears faces off for fun then the characters are a decent representation of where they came from :)
