It matters because Sony or whoever does this takes the easy way out. There is a blueprint on the wall and Sony just uses that. They could have very well made a 3D Brawler like Powerstone or Anarchy Reigns, representing the vast majority of their current cast properly. There are like 4 out of 20 characters that have not yet been in a 3D plane and that is very generous. Sackboy has a 3D model in LBP Karting. Parappa and Fat Princess are actually the only characters that didn't go 3D yet, afaik.

Regardless of what genre the game could have been, it would have something to compare to and look at to borrow from. No game is 100% original today. People are just butthurt because it happens to be in a genre dominated (but not created) by Nintendo for a long time now with little competition.

It's funny how you use lines like "Sony or whoever does this takes the easy way out. There is a blueprint on the wall and Sony just uses that." Before saying "They could have very well made a 3D Brawler like Powerstone or Anarchy Reigns, representing the vast majority of their current cast properly."

It's so obvious that your issues with the game have nothing to do with 2Dvs3D but just the game in particular that it's similar to.
