I think only people completely ignorant about video (like people saying 2560x1600 monitors exist for consumers at $1200) make these claims (that 1440p or higher are consumer-grade material in about 5 years).
I bet these people believe 720p and 1080p are numbers that were taken out of someone's *ss.
There are also all kind of different things thrown around and compared like they were the same. I've seen at least these things compared and mixed here : max source resolution available, max input resolution, actual display resolution (involving pitch in the case of a cathodic monitor, but noone mentioned pitch, so all the comments about these monitors are plain wrong).
No wonder it's impossible for anyone to agree on anything in this thread, and that it's a pain to read, with all the misinformation and nonsense that's gathered there.
