Vita won't have ports of 3DS games though. Or at least not the games that matter, so it won't have that PS360-esque symbiotic relationship with the 3DS. Good point about the PS3 being the Vita's companion, but that works out bad for the Vita, not good. If all Vita is destined to be is a mini-PS3, then it'll continue to fail. |
I find that to be false logic, there is no basis to disregard a system as a capable handheld version of a console. Personally it would be amazing if the Vita was truly a handheld PS3, capable of playing all the games PS3 can day one digitally from the PS Store. Obviously there are hardware complications to that along with code and a less than complete digital library. The Vita is not that but has an advantage of multiplatform games. To say that the Vita is at a disadvantage for this almost negates any argument you have on the benefit of two systems with relatively the same power. The PS3 is selling well for itself, to allign the Vita with multiplatform titles is a pro not a con, but that's besides the point as the handheld is unique, has exclusive games, and features that the PS3 does not or any other dedicated handheld system.
As for 3DS ports, yes if big name titles are exclusive to 3DS the Vita will lose out, but there are big name exclusive titles for the Vita with Assasins Creed 3 Liberation and Call of Duty Black Ops 2 Declassified. The ones on the 3DS are not the only ones that matter and unless I'm wrong some of those 3DS exclusives could make it onto the Vita as it would be easier to up port a 3DS game than downport a Vita game, the Vita stands at an advantage. That goes both ways as welll, the 3DS stands as much to lose by not having that symbiotic relationship as the Vita does, wouldn't it? I know it already has a larger install base but it didn't even have a symbiotic relationship in its first year and once both systems have a decent install base how does your symbiotic relationship theory hold up?
The real issue is that the Vita is suffering from a troubled economy, lack of consumer awareness, and an overwhelming consumer pack mentality as a result of the mainstream internet communication boom with strong competitors. Sony has lost the favor of the markets and has to fight consumer opinion backlash which makes it very difficult to introduce new products. The "sony hate" that people talk about is related to this and its realization was made apparent from the hacking groups that targeted the company. The consumer atmosphere is very against buying Sony products and with more people advocating against Sony than ever before they stand at a difficult point of time for the company. Oh and the delayed/split launch and price drop of the 3DS affected the Vita as well.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
