I would think it has to do with 2 things.
1. Microsoft and many sources have indicated that they want to take over the living room. If they are going to be not only do video games, but integrate TV as well they are going to need a powerful system.
2. Kinect 2.0 will most likely take a lot to run if they wish to do it properly.
