Sure, Galaxy 2 looks like it could compete with the best on the HD consoles in the graphics department. What magic the developers used to create such a thing is unparalleled. 

I think part of the magic could be easily explaned considering the level geomery of the game is quite simple, also you have a lot of small planets this means the hardware has to render only a few objects at once. Yes, galaxy looks incredible but it wouldn't be possible to recreate such beauty in a normal game enviroment.
