There is no denying the fact that for the last two years Nintendo has more or less not supported any one of their systems other than putting out an enormous amount of Mario games. FACT! People buy Nintendo for their games. Yet all we get is Mario 5 times a year. Get ready for some more Mario this Christmas with Paper Mario again! I know I was a little overboard with some of the OP, but come on. Nintendo is just giving us the run around. If they truly thought that shovel ware was the way of the future they would support it again like they did on the Wii. Meanwhile great indy games would get trampled yet again under all of the shovelware. When Miyamoto finally retires there will be a lot of problems in the Magic Kingdom! |
These are tough times for Nintendo, they need to secure the user base now to avoid big troubles in the future - look at Vita and portable market in general. That's why they're using their big guns more now. To secure a "safe path" for future games.
But 2 things... I love how every mario game is the same - Paper Mario, an RPG that's been in production for over 2 years (it was shown when the 3DS was revealed... is the same as New Super Mario Bros.
It's Mario, it's the same... well, it's not. I, personally don't even consider them the same franchise. Mario Tennis, Mario Kart... all "Marios", but not.
Second... try Scribblenauts Unlimited, Kingdom Hearts DDD, Code of Princess, Epic Mickey, Professor Layton, Brain Age - probably all solid games (there's also Pokemon BW2 on the DS and unknown games like Unchain Blades, Virtue's Last Reward or Harvest Moon) ... it's not a fantastic holiday line-up, I agree, but it's not shameful either. It happened mostly due to delays, imo, since Luigi's Mansion, Animal Crossing and Castlevania were all slated for a 2012 releases. Next year, they should all appear pretty soon, joined by Fire Emblem, Monster Hunter, Lego Underground. Plus, for real Nintendo fans there's also Wii U, which will take a lot of those holiday gaming hours.
