And the demographics study quoted in this article that I'm linking say that twitter is heavily focused on minorities, not that this is a bad thing at all, but the advertising just won't be as rich.

I lolled at the one comment under the article:
"If 14% are men and 15% women, what are the rest? The percentages should add up to 100% or are there high percentages as "unknown" or is it just the cell users so the remaining 71% are non-cell users? Sorry just trying to understand the figures."

The stats measured may be hard to understand, but it is good statistics. The Pew Research people don't make a bunk survey, they are very well regarded, basically at the level of NPD.
