My TV only goes up to 1080i so I don't care lol

And you need to start approach 30 inches in size before you begin to notice 1080 anyhow.

how do you know how much his viewing distance is?

Was just commenting on resolution not really mattering, if the screen is smaller, and his TV being 1080i would likely be sufficient.  Still frame, I believe 1080i and 1080p look the same, just 1080p refreshes twice as fast as 1080i.

1080i is lower resolution.  You could say it is 1920x540.

P.S. For everyone that has a  TV that is HDready and "supports"1080i  The TV is still only able to provide 720p at max and so it downscales the 1080i image to fit your 720p screen.   So if you have a 1080i TV then please chose 720p as option in your consoles or any other device you have.

It just internaly translates 1080i signals to "720p" this creates a quality loss and is made because of some TV channels broadcasting in 1080i and if  your TV could not translate 1080i to HDReady  you would see a  OUT OF RANGE  screen.
(It is no real 720p I just said it that way for better understanding)
