As a PC gamer, all I have to say to that is NO.

Screen size and viewing distance are what matter. He was partially right, and you're partially right.

For doing desktop work on a PC, I won't deny that resolution can't help.  But, for the case of moves and console video games, where you aren't right up in front of it, that is a different animal.
