Viewtiful Joe and Okami are owned by Capcom because Platinum Games never actually developed them. Those were made by a Capcom development team called Clover who later went on to make Platinum Studios when Capcom start reorganizing itself and got restrictive.

If Nintendo bought the company I suspect most of their top heads would leave the company because while they like to make games, they seem to relish in freedom and I doubt Nintendo ownership would grant them a lot of that. I could see a close partnership if Bayonetta and Wonderful 101 do well that one day may result in 2nd party status similar to Retro and Monolith Soft but for now, they are mercenaries.

I hope they do a 3DS game however, they are talented band based off their previous works.

Retro is fully owned by Nintendo so they are first party as for monolith soft i recently read Nintendo bought them completely now so first patry there as well

ah didn't know that about Okami and Joe

if they bought PG the staff (owners) would probably only accept to be bought on specific terms and if Nintendo agrees then they will let themselves be bought

I think Monolith is 81% owned by Nintendo and 19% by Namco-Bandai.

Namco sold their 16% share to Nintendo later that year.   They now own 94% of the company.
