Honestly, I don't like the design. The Wii seemed very distinct, if a little plain, with all its sharp angles. The rounded edges on the Wii U ditch the distinctiveness (everything is a rounded rectangle these days) so it just looks plain.
Looks like the illegitimate bastard of a Wii and a 360, actually. Might be exactly the effect that Nintendo is trying to evoke. "Here's the console for your 6 year-old girl, your 60 year-old mom, and most importantly, your 15-30 year-old male."
