The difference is that the PS3 didn't sell out the day after pre-orders opened. Nor did it sell out at every retailer.
ShopTo.net (big online video game retailer in the UK) is reporting the Wii U just smashed their largest console pre-order figures.
It's not the fact it is sold out that is of significance, it's how fast and how wide the sell out is.
