Sega still probably has a stake in the franchise and such the game was dead, no other company went to Sega to publish it. Nintendo needing a exclusive that could help it stand out among it's competition contacted Platinum to develop for them, crafting Wonderful 101. One of the cancelled Bayonetta 2 team probably brought up the idea to someone at Nintendo, who having a good relationship with Sega, made them an offer and the game was revived. Nintendo could have easily had Platinum Games create an original property for them that was less controversal (because since her debut trailer Bayonetta has been a controversy magnet) but someone sold them on doing Bayonetta and they bought into it. They wouldn't have sold it to Nintendo unless they really liked the hardware or the chances of another deal were slim to none. |
They havent been very forthcoming about what was going on behind the scenes.
Its fine Nintendo needing an exclusive or whatever, the problem is Platinum Games deciding to give exclusivity to Nintendo. I don't understand why Sega couldnt publish the game for all 3 platforms, I don't think they're going bankrupt? I think Nintendo probabily promised them a large marketing campagain, which Sega couldnt justify doing itself.
However I think its also possible the game is a timed exclusive until the PS4 and 720 are announced.
