Wii U won’t make Achievements Mandatory for all games.

We have evidence of Nintendo implementing them, and third party multiplats might as well implement if they think it'll actually help the game. The achievements that are there will be there for your friends to see.

But it doesn't matter if it's on a game by game basis. Nobody gives a shit about the achievements themselves, not even self proclaimed trophy hunters. Without the arbitrary e-peen-o-meter nobody cares about achievemnts, thats why nobody tries to 100% games on steam but everyone does it on ps3, xbox and WoW. It doesn't matter that the number doesn't do jack shit as long as my number is higher than yours.

I don't think that's what they meant, though. Surely accomplishments will be available for viewing between games (at your Mii), just that what they meant was that it won't be mandatory.

 

Do you really think third parties have that much freedom to tinker around on the Miiverse? I think what they meant is the option to send out notifications to friends when you earn an ingame Achievement but still, there will be no permanent score locked to it and therefore it will be useless for all parties. We'll see how it turns out, I don't care either way.
