I expect the NextBox to be sold at a loss at the same price or lower to what the Xbox 360 launched at. I also expect Sony to match the PS4's price to the NextBox or be slightly more if they think they can get away with it. But most of all, I fully expect the Nextbox and PS4's hardware to be powerfull enough to put the Wii U in the same position that the Wii was in. By that I mean that devs who want to be on the cutting edge will have to choose between cutting the Wii U out completely or building seperate games for it that look like inferior ports like Modern Warfare 3. |
Obviously NeXtBox and PS4 will be more powerful than WiiU, but I think expecting another Wii to PS360 situation is unrealistic, particularly regarding cross platform development. The Wii had architecture limitations that pretty much required PS360 games to be rebuilt for the console; not so with WiiU's modern architecture and game engines being supremely scalable. Heck, CryEngine 3 can even run on PS360. And remember that not every 3rd party company out there is Epic or Crytek; if WiiU does prove to be popular with "majority gamers" most studios could be quite happy with what WiiU has to offer: Good and innovative tech.
