I was pretty impressed by it.
I have a PS3 and I think the Wii U will far surpass anything the PS3 can do in terms of anything non-gaming related from what it looks like. Netflix at the convenience of the Wii U pad? Pretty amazing. Same with the TV on Wii Pad.
The social media aspect I might use if only to advertise shows I like. Otherwise it's useless to me.
Pretty neat idea though, I like it.
EDIT: One question though, will it allow split-screen TV?
E.G. One channel on the Wii U pad and another on the TV screen? If so then definitely a convenience.
