Which i'd say could be pretty common in certain households. Controller don't generally last ALL gen, even with being careful with them.

Yes, it's an extra cost for sure. Nintendo probably pulled  a Vita memory card overprice here, in a small dose. or maybe not, maybe the thing is really expensive. Bad move, but not a deal breaker, because with one you'll be set for some good time. It's like a vita or 3ds, really. What happens if any of them fails?
