This generation has sold about 10 percent more than the last generation did.
The split had been much more diversified as no console was über dominant ( like the PS2).
Once graphics cease to be an issue, then something else will be needed for consoles to differientiate themselves.
I believe that is the intent of the OP, in my opinion.
And I think that there is some truth to that.
