I would blame the handheld gaming market. Vita out. 3DS to follow.
IMPENDING DOOM OF VITA AND 3DS= Android/iOS

I think blaming the market for poor sales doesn't really hold up when you see the 3ds shifting 1/4million units the last 3 weeks in a row, also I love how that pic doesn't have either starting stage complete :D I can just imagine how awful that would be to play looking at the crushed snes controller, how close the dash button is to right on the virtual dpad, painful.

No it does however account for the sales. 3DS is currently enjoying the sales because of it's reasonable price and that's appealing to a large userbase especially the Japanese market . Vita which is selling at almost double it's price and not enough games puts it at a tough spot. 50 percent price-cut is only the solution. Kazuo Hirai must be re-thinking his strategy by now with a price-cut following much earlier than expected. But even then my point holds up- the handheld gaming market is slowly turning onto smartphones and tablets which is not good for both Vita and 3DS. And the way how Android/iOS (software and hardware) evolve every year is to be noted. It's not about what you are doing literally in the Pic.I won't be surprised if a 2014 android device or an iphone completely trounces Vita and 3DS off its features and functionality.By then both 3DS and especially PS Vita should make sure they have reached their maximum selling point.

Think you're well off with this, right now you are starting to see a few of the very basic DS launch games like the pheonix wright games coming to IoS which for the most part are static images not a whole lot going on so they are well suited to being controlled by taps on a screen, but as for the full blown handheld gaming experience, you just can't compare to an actual system with phsical buttons and the optional touch screen or in vitas case a touch screen and the rear touch pad, if you wanna see the real limitations of ios controls try and get the iphone version of street fighter 4 and then get either the 3ds's port of Super Street fighter 4 or the vitas version of Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and you will rethink just how evolved ios gaming feels.

I'm not actually well off with that. Well it seems you are under the impression that I've not seen what the 3DS and Vita actually do. In my previous post I never mentioned current iOS/Android games look or play better than any of the similar ports on Vita or 3DS. It's a matter of time how iOS/Android platform starts incorporating/customizing some of the features of the current handheld consoles. You CAN'T ignore that possibility.

Until there are at least basic control inputs put on an apple product you effectively can ignore them for actual portable gaming, you can state that there are more and more people with "gaming" phones out there but I'll be honest with you, I think I played a lot more on my nokia 5110 back in the 90s when that knew what it was, it had snake on it, and 4 buttons to control where he went it worked, trying to do a DP motion with an on screen dpad you might as well be trying to control a space shuttle with an old atari joystick it doesn't work.
I'm not for a second btw disputing that a good few people who own smart phones buy a few games from them that cost .99cent - 2.99 and there are a great number of little games that do work when they are built around the limitations that the lack of controls allows but what is it something like 60% of the apps on the ios store have never been downloaded even once? I don't really think this sort of market being flooded with such a massive pile of.... Explicit words :D would really rustle the feathers of nintendo or sony, it wont be having them thinking, is that guy at the bus stop who just spent .99cents on a game where you tap the screen to bounce from one side of a tree to the other, is he not buying my 250euros console with 50euro games because of that game he got.... NO he bought it cos it's a euro and he's bored, he wouldn't magically have 300euros to spend on a vita if that option wasn't there, he would just sit there bored for 5 mins waiting for the bus.
