I really dislike tabloids and I'm sad that he's turned Destructoid into The Sun. Justifying piracy by saying a company "deserves to be ripped off" is pathetic. Stealing from a place because you don't like them is not a valid response; refusing to buy from them is. As long as you attempt to make a profit, and as long as you have overhead of your own, you can never beat piracy. Machinarium, a game you can get easily and cheaply without DRM, saw like a 90% piracy rate. Implying that you can "beat" piracy by being nice is absurd. It's like saying you can beat shoplifting by leaving your business unlocked at night. Now, that being said, I don't like measures that hurt consumers more than they hurt pirates, which is what most DRM does, including Steam. The last time my internet went out I ended up playing on my PS3 because I couldn't play the game I wanted to play on Steam. Regardless, people pirate a game because they want to play it for free. The only way the gaming industry could compete with that would be to give games away, which would kind of mean no more video games would be made. |
They are...kind of. Cross Buy and PS Plus are sort of giving games away for free.
Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(
