I don't think anyone thinks they're. People will only see as much negative press as they want to. The Wii U is getting a bad wrap because alot of people are unsure of its capabilities and eventual 3rd party support, but the 3DS... I don't think so, not since its starting getting good games (winter 2011). Its winter 012 line up isn't very strong in the west.
As for the 3DS's 200% boost in sales, I don't know where this came from. NSMB2+ 3DSXL I guess, but this seems like a delayed sales response as the launch week sales were not spectacular. I'd vouch that the new Penelope Cruz adverts have helped over here in Europe+UK.
