Is a $200 WiiU really that far fetched? The Gamepad is basically an oversized Dualshock with an LCD touchscreen. LCD screens have become extremely cheap to produce. If I remember correctly it is only running at 480p and it is not a multitouch screen. So how much can it really cost to make? 50.00-60.00
If reports are correct and the system itself is only a couple times more powerful than the 360/PS3 is it unreasonable to think it would cost appx $100 to produce. Considering it lacks a hard drive, is rumored to have 1.5 gigs of ram, and is supposedly using a pretty standard CPU/GPU it doesn't seem unreasonable to me.
I plan on getting it regardless and expect it to Launch at $249.99, but at $199.99 it would look like a fantastic bargain when compared to the 360 and PS3. The fact that you can use all your existing Wii peripherals only adds to the value and could make the WiiU impossible to find this holiday.
Nintendo learned it's lesson with the 3DS and I don't think they'll make the same mistake twice. The system is launching with a Mario game so they already corrected one of the mistakes. If they can launch it at an irresistible price as well it could be a very good holiday for Nintendo. Just my two cents.
