I just watched the Hunger games on blu-ray. It was ok, I kinda expected more after all the hype around the theatrical release. It skipped over a lot of back story (Why are they hungry if they live next to a lush forested area? And what is all this district stuff anyway) and dragged in other places. The surround sound design was the best part of the movie, the hallucination scene and ear ringing effect especially stood out.
The visuals could have been better, the shaky camera work and low contrast scenes did not do the artwork justice.

I watched it again last weekend at the dollar cinema. Thought it was just as good as the first time. Some movies are meant to have been seen on the big screen so maybe that was the actual problem that you had.

Tonight in a half an hour I was thinking about watching Spiderman again at the dollar theaters. Just hit them today. Not sure if it was worth it though. It is only a dollar. I am struggling between that and doctor who or Timeline with Paul Walker.

I finally found out who River Song is! Very thrilling moment!

I watched it on a 92" screen, probably with a better field of view and sound then in any cinema near me. It was not the sound and visuals that were the problem (apart from the overuse of shaky camera) but the gaps in the story. I haven't read the story but still felt it made several weird jumps and glossed over a lot of character background. It didn't make me care about all the other characters except the main one. And what are they fighting in anyway? A holodeck or a studio like in the Truman show? Seems the latter but it also seems they're teleporting in these warhounds in the end.

Anyway the hunger games is still better then the next two movies I watched.
Knowing: Beautifully shot, acting was good, but too many questions left unaswered.
In Time: Great concept but like The island it quickly devolves in the standard chase nonsense while not being as good at it.

I did enjoy all these movies but they're not coming anywhere close to classics like 12 monkeys or Blade runner. It's time for a new sci-fi classic, who is going to make it?

In time does make you think though. Replace the time idea with money and it's pretty much a direct reflection of modern capitalism, there can't be rich people without the poor. And without the poor nobody will do the crappy jobs.
