GarageBand is pretty good for intuitive composing and it comes free with every Mac (get a used Mac Mini for $300). I used it to throw a couple of loops together for gym. It's really easy to do and the loops sound professional. It also has lots of midi instruments and some features to record a podcast (audio or video podcast).
Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.
