Nintendo's E3 press conference this year was a very mixed bag. What were we all hoping for? Among various fan favourite "title in HD" wish lists ( Donkey Kongs, Metroids, Star Foxs), we all wanted one other thing; clarity behind the purpose, target demographic and capabilities of nintendo's new home system the WiiU. Instead I believe that fans, media and the general public left the show without these aspects throughly explained.
Previous E3 we were told that The WiiU would be something for the true nintendo fan. Something that the showing of Pikmin 3 seemed to start the show off well with, however, by telling us that the fans would be excited last year Nintendo raised the bar high for our hopes, Everyone expected something else to go along with it, since pikmin3 really wasn't a suprise.
The only real suprise game coming out of Nintendo's conference specifically was Nintendo Land. But this also sent mixed messages; is it a game for the true nintendo fan fwith some fan favourite character themed minigames, or a way for the casual audience and gamers alike to understand the appeal of Nintendo's new controller? Hands on impressions have indicated that the games are fun, but do not truely indicate the potential of the controller with the same "wow" factor the the original wii sports had.
Nintendo's next conference really must cement with its targeted demographic, whatever that truely ends up being, why the console for them and what it truely offers, Nintenod really missed an opportunity to explain miverse in a way the enable people to understand as to why it is a neseccary and or a great idea, the concept is intriguing, but intrigue is one thing, but this close to lauch surely that intrigue should start to manifest into belief.
Next E3 we truely need to see exactly where the are going with there online strategy, as well as see some blockbuster 1st party and 3rd party games, 3rd party new and exclusive IP's will be absolutely necessary to ensure that software sales stay healthy and do not stagnate like we saw them do with the wii to an extent.
What would you guys and girls like to see come out of nintendo's E3 and more importantly, what NEEDS to come out of it?
