You only need to play 2 more.  Snake Eater and Peace Walker.  And if you want, you can play Metal Gear Solid 4, but it shouldn't be necessary.

I highly disagree. skipping that chapter is the worst thing he can do.

trust me dude, you can quote me on it you going to like 4. it also fills in a lot of blanks in the series.

Ground Zero takes place after Peace Walker, which takes place before Metal Gear or concurrently to it.  Anything after Metal Gear won't be necessary for it.

GZ is a freakin prequel to mgs. dude obviously  lmao

I don't know what else to tell you. I just hope that other guy follows his heart and acknowledge mgs4 is not to be over looked.

Of course it shouldn't be overlooked, I'm just saying if he needs to get through some games before playing this one then he just needs to play Peace Walker and Snake Eater.  If he can get them done in time, then that's even better... I don't even know who's talking about what anymore :(
